Agua de Lulo: A Celebration of Cali’s Vibrant Salsa Culture in Rotterdam
Join us for Agua de Lulo, Rotterdam’s very first event dedicated to sharing the rich and lively culture of Cali, Colombia. Known as the salsa capital of the world.
The name Agua de Lulo comes from the small parties held in Cali during the 1960s and early 1970s, when salsa music was just becoming the genre we all love today. These gatherings were mostly for teenagers who couldn’t go to the clubs yet, so they created their own spaces to enjoy music, dance, and community. The only drink available at these parties was Agua de Lulo — a refreshing lulo fruit juice — which gave the parties their unforgettable name.
Many believe that these intimate celebrations helped shape what is now known as the Cali salsa style, an important cultural heritage for the city and its people.
