Think you've got what it takes to build a boat out of nothing but cardboard, duct tape, and dreams? Put your DIY skills to the test at our first-ever Floatzillapalooza Cardboard Boat Race at Lake Potter! This contest is free and open to the public, registration required, link below! The races are held on August 16th and start at 11am at Lake Potter in Rock Island, IL.
Boat Construction
1. Boats must be constructed ahead of the race. Show up ready to paddle!
2. Only corrugated cardboard, duct tape, and water-based paint may be used.
3. Wood, metal, Styrofoam, or other materials that would aid in flotation or make the hull rigid are prohibited. Cardboard may not have any wax, resin, or vinyl coating.
4. Boats may be decorated with any “one-part water based” paint. No epoxy glues, fiberglass resins or “multi-part” varnishes or paints may be used.
The Race
1. Each crew member MUST wear a life jacket. Each crew is allowed 2 paddles. No other method of propulsion can be used.
2. Boats will race one at a time around a buoy and back to the starting line. The fastest time wins.
