This class is engineered for Summit K9 students who have completed basic coursework with Summit K9 and are ready to begin practicing around other dogs, in novel environments, or in more challenging scenarios.
This class is best for ADVANCED dog and handler teams. Most teams, this will mean that dogs enrolled are ready for off-site classes and are able to work under higher levels of distraction in public spaces! Dogs with severe reactivity, or that are still fine tuning their early e-collar conditioning work, should register for the Intermediate Elevated Obedience class.
This class is a great option for dogs who have built a strong foundation of obedience through other Summit K9 services. Ideal candidates for this class should have shaped the basic core 5 skills (come, sit, down, place, and heel) but may still be proofing these skills to new environments and around distractions and triggers. This class is reactive dog friendly and is a great opportunity for continued practice and troubleshooting. Sessions will provide opportunities for group practice and scenario set ups under controlled situations, helping bridge the gap between training at home and away from triggers and navigating the unpredictability of real world scenarios. This class also provides an excellent opportunity for ongoing e-collar conditioning and troubleshooting, providing novel opportunities for generalization!
These classes will be held intermittently as available, and some sessions will take place off-site in dog friendly public locations, weather permitting!
Is this class for you?
These standalone classes are designed for students and dogs who have already built a strong foundation of obedience through other Summit K9 services, or with an equivalent training program. Before enrolling in this class, your dog should have strong formal heeling/loose leash walking skills and engagement when triggers are not present, strong leash pressure fluency, a basic understanding of markers (yes and good being most important), and moderate to strong stays in positions such as sit and down when triggers are not present. Please contact the Summit K9 staff if you are unsure if this class is appropriate!
