Out of Pocket is excited to announce auditions for "The Amateurs", the first show of its 2025-2026 season. Directed by John Jaeger, this remarkable play by Pulitzer-Prize-nominated playwright Jordan Harrison is about times of crises and the art that trauma can generate, one that is perfect for the spooky season of Halloween.
Auditions will be held at The MuCCC (142 Atlantic Avenue) on Monday, August 11th. Callbacks will be held on Tuesday, August 12th. All auditions are by appointment only. Please email

Those auditioning are asked to provide an acting resume, schedule of conflicts between August 24th and November 8th, and a headshot, if available. Please note: additional conflicts following the audition process may result in the recasting of the role.
Auditionees will be asked to read sides from the play. Those auditioning should be familiar with the play if possible - a copy of the script is available here:

Rehearsal Period: Rehearsals begin late August, typically rehearsing Sunday through Thursday evenings. Friday and Saturday rehearsals may be scheduled based on rehearsal progress and cast availability.

Synopsis: An intrepid troupe of pageant players races across medieval Europe, struggling to outrun the Black Death. The arrival of a mysterious outsider sends Hollis, the leading lady, in search of answers that can only be found off-script... and soon the 14th-century plague begins to look like another, more recent one. This wildly inventive and funny work examines the evolution of human creativity in a dark age: When does a crisis destroy us, and when does it open new frontiers?
