We're getting ready to cut loose, Footloose!! Join us here at the Richmond Community Theatre as we get ready to kick off the summer with auditions to our first 60th season production, "Footloose"!
SYNOPSIS
When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, he is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. But he’s not prepared for the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, who is determined to exercise control over the town’s youth. When the reverend’s rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation, with many
of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges pins a father longing for the son he lost against a young man aching for the father who walked out on him.
To the rockin’ rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated Top 40 score, augmented with dynamic new songs, Footloose celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people while guiding them with a warm heart and open mind.

Audition Dates & Time: May 28 & 29, 2025 | 7PM
Auditions will take place at Richmond Community Theatre. Please arrive 10–15 minutes before 7:00 PM to complete your audition form.
Callback Date & Time: June 1, 2025 | 12PM
Callbacks will be held at Richmond Community Theatre. Please come prepared to sing “Almost Paradise” and “Holding Out for a Hero.” There will also be a dance audition, so be sure to wear comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for movement.

Acting Auditions:
Acting auditions will consist of cold readings from selected scenes. We will provide a few script cuttings for all auditioners to read from during the audition. You can access the materials using the link below:

Character List:
REN MCCORMACK – teenage boy from Chicago. Energetic, emotional, rebellious, likeable; emotes his pain through quirky sarcasm and dance; strong dancer. (Range: D3-C5)
REVEREND SHAW MOORE – The powerful, traditional local church minister; strict, stern, and solemn, still struggling with the death of his son. (Range: A2-F#4)
ARIEL MOORE – Smart, a bit of the bad girl with an edge, sweet, the rebellious minister’s daughter; role requires strong belt, must be a strong singer/dancer. (Range: G3-Eb5)
VI MOORE – Reverend Moore’s loving, supportive, resilient wife. (Range: A3-Db5)
RUSTY – Ariel’s friend; a bit scatterbrained, sweet, fun, knows everything about everything; role requires strong belt, strong comedic timing and dance. (Range: A3-F#5 (opt. F#6)
WILLARD HEWITT – A simple country bumpkin with a warm heart and a big smile; comedic timing and dance a must. (Range: Bb2-Ab4)
ETHEL MCCORMACK – Ren’s mother; had a tough go, just trying to make it...would do anything for her son. (Range: A3-D5)
CHUCK CRANSTON – The local bad boy and Ariel’s boyfriend. (Range: F#3-B4)
URLEEN – Ariel’s friend; the smart one of the group; role requires strong belt, comedic timing, and dance. (Range: A3-D5)
WENDY JO – Ariel’s friend; strong belt, comedic timing, and dance required. (Range: A3-E5)
COWBOY BOB – the lead vocalist at the Bar-B-Que (Range: E3-C5)
ENSEMBLE – Townspeople, students; need strong character people (all age ranges) for many roles (listed below); teenage through adults; chorus singing, dancing parts; all teens dance, all adults dance at the prom.
Vocal Auditions:
All auditioners must prepare a pop/rock song in the style of Footloose: The Musical and perform it with a backing track (no a cappella auditions, please). Your track can be played through our sound system using a cellphone, iPad, or tablet. Alternatively, you may email your accompaniment track in advance to
