Wine Tasting Notes:
World Tour – France, Chile, Italy.
1) Château de la Terrière Beaujolais-Villages – Cercié, Beaujolais, France – 2021. Gamay. From one of the oldest estates in the Beaujolais region, with a history dating back to the 14th century. A bright and inviting profile, reflecting the cooler growing conditions of the vintage. On the nose, this wine presents aromas of fresh red berries, including wild strawberry, raspberry, and cranberry, alongside floral hints of violet and rose petal. Subtle undertones of white pepper, anise, and earthy minerality emerge, adding complexity to its bouquet. On the palate, the wine is light to medium-bodied with a lively acidity. The red fruit flavors carry through, balanced by a gentle spiciness and a touch of herbaceousness. The finish is smooth, with soft tannins that add just enough structure without overpowering the fruit.
2) Ventisquero Grey Single Block Trinidad Vineyard Carménère – Maipo Valley, Chile – 2021. Ventisquero Grey represents the complete expression of a single block of vines and pays homage to its place of origin. Hand-harvested, personally selected grapes, given exceptional care. The passionate and meticulous work by the winemaker and vineyard manager result in a very limited harvest of small, concentrated bunches of fruit, all set aside exclusively for this wine. The result: Grey Carmenere, an outstanding wine of elegant character, with silky tannins and intense black fruit flavors. This Carménère reveals the classic varietal notes, like green pepper, but in a gentle, well-rounded manner. With a spectacular nose of black fruit, a touch of earthiness and floral notes, such as violets. It's fresh and has enough fruit and wood spice to balance its herbaceous character.
3) Citto della Volpaia Toscana – 2023 – Tuscany, Italy. Mostly Sangiovese with some Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1510, Lorenzo della Volpaia built the Planetary Clock for Lorenzo de’ Medici to track the positions of the heavenly bodies relative to the Earth in order to exactly determine astrological influences over arts, sciences and agriculture. This same spirit guides Citto in crafting their wines. In the Tuscan dialect, “Citto” means “a young boy.” This is a generous and silky wine that delights the senses with its fruity aroma, filling the air with the scent of ripe berries. Upon tasting, you will experience an intense berry flavor that lingers on the palate, making each sip a memorable experience.
