JDUB Academy: Hidden Trails - Nature's Role in the Underground Railroad

Step back in time and explore the vital role nature played in the journey to freedom on the Underground Railroad. This engaging program takes participants on a tour of Dr. Richard Eels' historic home, a key stop on the Underground Railroad; to the John Wood Mansion to learn about historical artifacts; to the Quincy Museum's Underground Railroad exhibit; and, also, to local parks to investigate the Mississippi River, streams, and woodlands that provided shelter and guidance to freedom seekers. Discover how Quincy's unique geography made it a pivotal location in these courageous journeys, and visit the New Philadelphia National Historic Site to uncover more stories of resilience and hope. Through hands-on activities and exploration, history and nature come alive! This experience is a partner program with John Wood Community College, University of Illinois Extension, and Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County. Transportation provided.

Eligibility:
• Grades 4-6
• Limited to 15 youth
• JDUB Academy Scholarships are available
