: ̗̀➛How does space shape movement? How does the body hold onto architecture? Designed for both artists and architects, this workshop bridges disciplines, offering a space to explore how movement and architectural design influence one another.
: ̗̀➛Workshop participants will step into the Beautiful Confusion’s Movement/Architecture methodology—an improvisational approach that treats architectural space as a dance partner, building on approaches from Viewpoints (Bogart/Landau), choreology (modern developments of Rudolf Laban’s work) and embodied writing and informed by architectural thinkers such as Juhani Pallasmaa, Gaston Bachelard and Robert McCarter. Through exercises guided by the full creative team behind the project, we will explore surfaces, textures and structures, transforming them into movement material that carries the memory of the built environment.
: ̗̀➛This workshop also invites participants to reflect on their prior encounters with architecture through work with embodied memory and approaches to making absent spaces present and visible through movement.
: ̗̀➛Workshop leaders: Mary Ann Hushlak (dance and performance dramaturg), Becka McFadden (dance and theatre artist), Sylvie Robaldo (practical choreologist)
: ̗̀➛No prior dance experience required—just curiosity and a willingness to engage with the relationship between body and space. Please come dressed in a way that allows comfortable movement. The workshop will be delivered in English. If on-site childcare would help you to access this workshop, please contact us at
