About the event

A CLOCKWORK ORANGE - THE PLAY
Prepare yourself for a spectacle to behold unlike any seen before!

We invite you to experience an immersive production of A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, where the beautiful collides with the brutal, the glorious is defamed by the profane. Ballet and dance merge crudely with opera, Beethoven – and a little bit of the good old ultra violence.
A story of an anti-establishment rebellious youth, enacting and being victim to abuse of power, domination, superiority, artistry, veneration of classical music, disrespect, perversion, and destruction.

We are both enchanted and terrified as we follow our main character, the Gang leader Alex, through murder, institutionalisation, reform, and his return to a world that left him behind.

“A Clockwork Orange” is Anthony Burgess’s most famous novel and its impact on literary, musical and visual culture has been extensive. The novel is concerned with the conflict between the individual and the state, the punishment of young criminals, and the possibility or otherwise of redemption. The linguistic originality of the book, and the moral questions it raises, are as relevant now as they ever were:

‘When we look at the political landscape of the West today, we should expect the youth culture from ‘A Clockwork Orange’,’ says producer Gordon L. Schmitz, who had the urge to bring the play to the stage right now. ‘But instead, there seems to be a complete lack of political counterculture: Either once radical left-wing ideas have long been mainstream, or neo-fascist billionaires are idolised. No sign of anarchy, anomie or punk. But then a CEO is executed on the streets in New York and the assassin is celebrated as a ‘folk hero’ - by the progressive left, and not even without reason. This shows us that we are in fact only one day away from the ultra-violent reality of this story.’

With direction by Christopher Adamson (Co-founder and Artistic Director of D’Prompt Theatre), Choreography by Jade Becker (Associate Director, Ballet Teacher at First International Ballet School in Prague), vocal coach Sav Bea (Founder of Sav Bea Academy) taking over duties as singing instructor, live electronic music by US/Italian Duo Babička Scaramanzia, „A Clockwork Orange" is produced by Gordon L. Schmitz‘ The Mad and Merry Men.
