Kmotr alt-country & ikona pouštního rocku Howe Gelb (Giant Sand) v květnu poprvé zahraje v Praze
Howe Gelb je arizonský hudebník, skladatel a producent, známý především jako zakladatel a frontman ansámblu Giant Sand. Jeho tvorba, ať už sólová či kolaborativní, se vyznačuje eklektickým a nestrojeným přístupem, s nímž kombinuje vlivy country, blues, southwestern psychedelie, jazzu, tex-mex, indie rocku i omamné atmosféry domovského Tucsonu, to vše s osobitým beatnickým přístupem k songwritingu. Během své kariéry spolupracoval s řadou zásadních jmen (John Parish, PJ Harvey, M. Ward nebo Neco Case) a podílel se na vzniku několika desítek alb.
V MeetFactory jeho sólový koncert doprovodí multiinstrumentalista Lorenzo Corti, který hraje jako koncertní kytarista mimojiné se znovuzrozenou londýnskou formací Cousteau. Koncert představí Howeho klasiky, adaptace skladeb Giant Sand i pár horkých novinek.

Hostem koncertu bude hudebník, textař a básník Jiří Imlauf, který působil na české alternativní scéně od 90. let jako zpěvák a kytarista kultovní kapely Houpací koně. Kapela vydala 10 alb a má za sebou bezpočtu koncertů v České republice, na Slovensku, v Německu nebo Holandsku.
Po jejím rozpadu v roce 2021 se Jiří vydal na dráhu písničkáře a energický rockový zvuk vyměnil za jemnější akustické písně. Na začátku tohoto roku se k němu přidal multiinstrumentalista Ondřej Kyas, člen brněnské kapely Květy, a společně nahráli album, které je těsně před vydáním.

The godfather of alt-country & desert rock icon Howe Gelb (of Giant Sand) to perform in Prague for the first time in May
Howe Gelb had been busy making music under the radar for the better part of two decades before something more than a cult following began appreciating his work around the turn of the century. The Arizona-based musician, composer, and producer, is best known as the founder and frontman of the ensemble Giant Sand. His work, both solo and collaborative, is characterized by an eclectic and unpretentious approach, blending influences of country, blues, jazz, southwestern psychedelia, indie rock, and the hypnotic atmosphere of his hometown Tucson—all infused with a distinctive beatnik songwriting style.
Over his career, Gelb has collaborated with numerous notable artists (John Parish, PJ Harvey, M. Ward, and Neko Case among others) and contributed to dozens of albums.
At MeetFactory, his solo concert will be accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Lorenzo Corti, who performs as a guitarist with the recently revived London band Cousteau. The concert will feature Howe’s classics, adaptations of Giant Sand songs, and a few fresh new tracks.

Opening the night will be musician, lyricist, and poet Jiří Imlauf, who has been active on the Czech alternative scene since the 90s as the singer and guitarist of the cult band Houpací koně. The band released 10 albums and played countless concerts in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, and the Netherlands.
After the band disbanded in 2021, Jiří embarked on a solo singer-songwriter path, trading in energetic rock sound for gentle acoustic songs. Early this year, he was joined by multi-instrumentalist Ondřej Kyas, a member of the Brno-based band Květy, and together they recorded an album that is releasing soon.
