The Kokořínský Důl is one of the most picturesque valleys in the Czech Republic. It is renowned for its romantic gorges and unique sandstone towers, gates, windows and other formations that do not exist in such a form and size anywhere else in the Czech Republic. You may come across deep gorges, rock caverns and overhangs, and romantic forest pools with water lilies and picturesque timbered house.
Among many marvellous places, there are, for example, the villages of Vojtěchov and Hlučov known for folk architecture and remnants of a mill partially carved in the rock, Harakoko, Harasovské Jezero, the Mlčeň Mill, etc. There are real rarities, such as the pools named Vojtěchovská, Hlučovská and Podhradská, rich with aquatic flora and bird nesting habitats. Many species of animals living in wetlands are nowhere else in Bohemia.
The Kokořín Castle is one of the most romantic in the country. On the slope below the castle are the so-called Nedamy, partially artificial caves excavated in sandstones, which in the thirty years of war were used by the inhabitants of the surrounding villages as a shelter.
