🔥 3-Week Raku Class: Fire, Smoke & Surprise
Get ready to explore one of pottery’s most dramatic and exciting firing methods—Raku! This fast, fiery, and unpredictable Japanese technique brings bold finishes, smoky crackles, and an unforgettable creative experience.
Over three weeks, you’ll create up to three pieces with special Raku clay, guided by our skilled instructors:
Week 1 – Throw & Form
Learn to throw or hand-build forms that are ideal for Raku firing—think bold shapes, textured surfaces, and expressive lines.
Week 2 – Trim & Decorate
Refine your work and add surface decoration while your clay is leather hard. Carve, stamp, or add elements to make your pieces stand out.
Week 3 – Glaze for the Fire
Apply bold, reactive Raku glazes that create magical results in the kiln. Learn how glaze interacts with fire, smoke, and rapid cooling.
SATURDAYS - Optional Raku Firing Days 🔥
After the class, join us for one of our outdoor Raku firing events where your glazed pots will be pulled red-hot from the kiln and plunged into sawdust or leaves—creating unique crackles, smoky patterns, and dazzling metallic finishes. A true spectacle of clay and flame!
