Please join us in welcoming guest professor, Emily Boucher, owner of Moonpool Studios, to the Deadwick's Common Room!
In this class we’ll explore ways to connect with and channel the self and our inner guides through expressive art exercises, non-dominant hand work, and the discovery of the symbols of self. We’ll focus on techniques for developing intuition, emotional clarity, and listening to and defining aspects of the inner world. Participants are asked to bring a sketchbook and pencil. Oil pastels will be provided however participants are welcome to bring their own set.
If you are attending this class via Zoom, please be prepared with your own art supplies.
Emily Boucher is an artist and writer who specializes in sculpture and acrylic painting. She is well versed in the lost wax process for bronze casting, and besides sculpting her pieces, makes all of her own molds, wax patterns, and contributes to the metalwork & patination of her bronzes. She is a mold maker by trade.
"Art making is my way of engaging with what Inoue Enryo called 真怪, shinkai, or true mystery—the secret thing at the core of existence. That thing we can touch, feel, explore, and yet we can never know. The thing that we find in the secret places, the dark forests, the between spaces.
The process of creating, for me, is a reaching out, a grasping, a walking through to the other side, a meeting with my own self—my alter ego, a me who isn’t me. The part of myself that I cannot understand. What comes out in the end is simply its answer to my call… a glimpse into its world of knowing what I can never truly understand."
Classes will take place at the Deadwick's Common Room, 19 Sheafe St., Portsmouth, NH and will run approximately an hour and a half to two hours. Please arrive promptly at 6pm, and allow time for parking. Guests attending via Zoom will be emailed a class link prior to the class. The fee for this course is $55/student, or $50 for virtual Zoom attendees.
