Discount Beetle Pinning Class

Learn the techniques of relaxing, pinning, and drying dead darkling beetle specimens.

In this pinning class we are using beetles raised here at the insectarium. They are a common species that doesn't cost us money so we are able to offer this discounted class for those who want to learn on less fancy bugs. Ticket includes instruction, zoo admission, pins, styrofoam pinning block, and two beetles. Optional shadowbox and full pinning kit add-ons available.

​Due to limited space, everyone attending must purchase a ticket. Recommended age 10+ as pinning requires fine motor skills and uses sharp objects. Kids under age 15 must have an adult present with a ticket. If you are accompanying someone and do not want to pin a bug, please purchase the $10 parent/guest ticket. ​
