PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE IN PROGRAMMING FOR TONIGHT. (No Open Mic. Open Mic has been moved to July 29.)
BOLD is thrilled to host a reading with Carolyn Dasher, author of American Sky, in conversation with Joanna Rose, author of A Small Crowd of Strangers and Little Miss Strange.
American Sky is a powerful debut novel about three generations of gutsy mothers and daughters who defy norms while grappling with family, self, love and war, ultimately learning to fly— in every sense of the word.
After a nomadic, military brat childhood, Carolyn Dasher (she/her) found her true home in Portland, Oregon. Carolyn’s short fiction has appeared in Sunspot Literary Journal. American Sky is her first novel.
Joanna Rose has published stories, essays, poems, and the award-winning novel Little Miss Strange (Algonquin), as well as other pieces that don’t fall into any of those categories. Her work has appeared in CloudBank, Cream City Review, Bellingham Review, Windfall, Timberline Review, Portland Review, and Zyzzyva, among others. Oregon Humanities published her essay, “That Thing With Feathers,” which was cited as a Notable in 2015 Best American Essays. She has taught youth through Literary Arts Writers in the Schools and Young Musicians & Artists. She currently teaches adult classes on language and craft at The Attic Institute of Arts & Letters. When she’s not at the coast she lives in downtown Portland.
Arrive at 5:00 p.m. to grab a snack or drink. The event will start at 5:30 p.m.
