About the event

A Beginner's Loom Workshop
A Beginner’s Loom Workshop
Rebecca Zastany Wilson

Discover the art of weaving in this hands-on, beginner-friendly workshop designed to introduce participants to loom weaving in a relaxed, supportive environment. Each participant will be provided with a pre-threaded loom, allowing for more time focused on weaving technique and creative expression.

Workshop Structure:

The workshop begins with an introduction to the basic parts of a loom and a simple explanation of how patterning works. Participants will start with plain weave, offering plenty of time and space to practice, make mistakes, and get comfortable with the process. Once everyone is confident, we’ll transition to creating a final project: either a patterned tapestry/wall hanging or a mini runner/mat, depending on individual preference. To complete the project, we use an iron and provide a finished look with an iron-on hem.

Workshop Details:

- Cost: $65/person
- Skill Level: Beginner (no prior experience necessary)
- Age Requirement: 16+
- Group Size: Minimum 4 participants, maximum 7
- Time: 6pm - 8pm
- Date: Wednesday, July 9
- Location: Gallery 224 - 303 N Franklin St, Port Washington, WI

Workshop fees include loom preparation (which takes approximately 45–60 minutes per loom), all necessary yarn, and finishing materials.

This weaving experience blends technique with creativity, offering a thoughtful introduction to loom weaving in a welcoming, small-group setting. Perfect for craft-curious beginners and those looking to try something new with their hands.

About Becca:

Wilson is a Milwaukee based artist who focuses on weaving. She graduated from Columbia College Chicago in 2009 and rediscovered her passion for fiber art through a weaving class in Milwaukee. She is the former director of the ABK Weaving Center and has taught weaving since 2016. Her current project is Zastany Handwoven Towels. Wilson has not met a color combination that scares her.
