Albert Lee is one of the most respected and renowned guitarists in music history, having worked with The Everly Brothers, Eric Clapton, Emmylou Harris and The Crickets over his long and illustrious career. The British-born country-rock artist started his career during the emerging rock 'n' roll scene of sixties London, when he swapped bands with the likes of Jimmy Page and Chris Farlowe. While contemporaries Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Ronnie Wood were drawn to American blues & rock, Lee wanted to play country.
After moving to the U.S. and assimilating himself into the country music scene, Albert quickly garnered a reputation as one of the fastest guitar players in the business. In 1976, he was asked to join Emmylou Harris' Hot Band, replacing one of his heroes, James Burton, who was returning to perform with Elvis Presley. The Hot Band also featured other musicians including Ricky Skaggs and Rodney Crowell. When not out with Emmylou, Lee also worked with Clapton from 1978-82, singing and playing on Clapton's Live at Budokan. In 1983, as musical director, Lee also played with the Everly Brothers for 20 years and served as the musical director for their 1983 reunion concert.
Albert Lee is also a prolific composer and penned the Ricky Skaggs hit "Country Boy." Lee recorded a number of solo albums, and won a Grammy in 2002 for his contribution on 'Foggy Mountain Breakdown'. He continues to tour today, and plays his signature Ernie Ball Music Man Guitar.
Opening the show is John Greyhound Maxwell, who David Lindley once called “the best slide player he’d heard in years" - high praise from one of the finest slide players of our generation. His first recording, Blues for Evangeline, made the top five in the Best Self-Produced CD competition at the 2016 Memphis International Blues Challenge. Maxwell’s second recording, Even Good Dogs Get the Blues, represented the Washington Blues Society at the 2019 IBC. John has had a song placed in a film at the Sundance Festival and has taught at the prestigious Port Townsend Acoustic Blues Festival. His latest release is “Wagon of Tales”, recorded live over two nights at Rainshadow Recording.
