HONK!
music by George Stiles
book & lyrics by Anthony Drewe
directed by Paula Herrig
JUNE 19-22 & JUNE 26-29, 2025
This heart-warming re-imagining of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Ugly Duckling” tells the story of Ugly, a plucky little bird who gets picked on by the other farmyard animals because he’s different. Pushed out of the flock, he embarks on an adventure across the marsh, meeting an array of characters who teach him that it takes all sorts to make a world, and that he is much more than just his fowl looks. Honk! is a miraculous musical that should be seen by every parent and child everywhere and anyone who can relate to the plight of an outsider trying to fit in.
Our local production of Honk! is directed by Paula Herrig, and musically led by Owen Minet.
Auditions are scheduled for Thursday, April 24th between 6:00p and 8:00p at the Pipestone Performing Arts Center. Rehearsals will begin in early May, with an anticipated Monday through Thursday evening (and occasional Sunday afternoon) rehearsal schedule. We need men, women and children to round out the cast. This is the perfect show for the entire family to be involved.
THE STORY: Since it first hatched in 1993, Stiles & Drewe's musical, Honk!, has winged its way around the world in over 8,000 productions and in many different languages. Winner of multiple awards, including the 2000 Olivier Award for Best Musical, this heartwarming celebration of being different is sure to delight audiences of all ages with its sparkling wit and memorable score. Ugly looks quite a bit different from his darling duckling brothers and sisters. The other animals on the farm are quick to notice and point this out, despite his mother's protective flapping. Feeling rather foul about himself, the little fowl finds himself on an adventure of self-discovery, all the while unknowingly outwitting a very hungry Cat. Along the way, Ugly meets a whole flock of unique characters and finds out that being different is not a bad thing to be.
