Will Cleveland is a Rochester-based journalist and beer writer known for his in-depth coverage of the local craft beer scene. He began writing about beer in 2014 as a reporter for the Democrat and Chronicle, where he spent over 14 years covering a range of topics, including public safety and local news. In early 2022, he launched The Cleveland Prost, a Substack newsletter that offers readers a behind-the-scenes look at the Finger Lakes and Western New York beer scenes, featuring brewery profiles, breaking news, industry trends, and event coverage.
Cleveland's passion for beer journalism is rooted in his early experiences. As an undergraduate at the University of Montana in Missoula, he lived across the street from KettleHouse Brewing, which sparked his interest in craft beer. He later earned a master's degree in English from the University of Maine. His work has been featured in various publications, including USA Today, Yahoo News, Good Beer Hunting.
Currently, Cleveland serves as an oversight manager for Rochester Police Accountability Board, a role he transitioned into in 2022 after leaving the Democrat and Chronicle. Despite this career shift, he continues to write about beer on a freelance basis, maintaining his connection to the local beer community
Cleveland is also an ardent and boisterous advocate for graffiti and public art in the Rochester region as many of his adventures have taken him to some of the weirder (and abandoned) spots in this area on the search for vibrant artwork. He shares many of those adventures on his Instagram page.
Cleveland, a Rochester native, currently lives in the city of Rochester with his wife Cassie and two kids, Audie and Eliza.
