Sunset Bat Count & Guano Sampling

Join DCC for a Sunset Bat Count! We will be monitoring an active bat roost, from 30min before sunset to 60min after sunset, counting the bats as they exit the roost for their nightly insect hunting. We will discuss native bats and their conservation concerns, as well as our ongoing citizen science research.

This program involves observation for an extended period of time in one place, so if you would like to bring a small camp chair or a small picnic blanket and a beverage in order to be comfortable, you are welcome to (as space allows). Red light headlamps are recommended for after sunset if you have one.

In order to be considerate to our bats and encourage their typical behavior, it is important that observers maintain a calm and quiet presence during the count. Ages 14 & up.
