Take a structured approach to building your sewing skills with this short course, packed with some of those trickier intermediate sewing techniques that will really help to level up your sewing. Working in calico, we’ll create step-by-step samples of each technique together, building a folder of samples and notes for you to take home as a lasting reference.
I love teaching through sample-making. It's the perfect way to explore a wide variety of techniques without being limited to those needed for a single garment, so you can get maximum learning out of your time in the studio. This approach also helps to build confidence at the machine, and allows us to really focus in on each technique so that you can master the process before applying it to your sewing projects at home.
This class is ideal for those who have some sewing experience, and would like to build their knowledge and skills and progress to more complex garments. It’s also perfect if you’re returning to sewing after a break and would like a skills refresher to rebuild your confidence.
We will construct a range of samples of some really useful techniques, including:
Fly front and concealed zips
Welt and flap pockets
Plackets
Perfect bias binding round convex and concave curves
Collars with revers
Understitched facings
This course takes place over four mornings. Tea and coffee will be provided to keep us all going, and there are some lovely cafes a few minutes walk away in the centre of Peebles to refuel afterwards.
You should to bring your sewing machine and a basic sewing kit of fabric scissors, thread snips, pins, measuring tape and stitch unpicker. There is equipment in the studio though, so don't worry if you don't have all of these.
Mon-Thurs // 9.30am-1pm
