Pasadena parents and caregivers of children and youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN) and children with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) are invited to attend an IEP binder workshop. In this training, you will learn how to organize and document your child’s school records and IEP documents, and ask questions related to the IEP process. This is a two-part workshop occurring on May 17th (Part 1) and May 24th (Part 2) from 1-3 pm.
The Binder Workshop is hosted by the Pasadena Public Health Department’s California Innovations in Services and Partnerships for Inclusion, Resilience, and Empowerment (Cal-InSPIRE) program. Cal-InSPIRE is a program funded by the California Department of Public Health to find innovative solutions to address the needs of CYSHCN and their families in Pasadena.
May 17th - Part 1: Focuses on understanding an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), understanding key terminology, and answering frequently asked questions.
May 24th - Part 2: Hands-on opportunity for participants to organize their child’s IEP binder with guided support. A brief presentation on emergency preparedness for IEPs and children’s personal documents will be provided.
The workshop is led in collaboration with parent leaders Marlene Benites and Kim Jones. Both parents served in leadership roles within the Pasadena Unified School District Special Education Community Advisory Committee and have extensive experience leading IEP workshops and trainings for the community.
The IEP Binder Workshop event includes:
· Complementary binder materials
· Lunch
· Raffle for participants who attend both parts of the workshop.
Registration is required. Limited capacity available. Participants must sign up for parts 1 and 2. Priority will be given to parents/caregivers residing in Pasadena, Altadena, and Sierra Madre. Childcare will not be provided during the workshops due to site location limitations.
