Join us this Final Friday May 30th from 5-7pm for our new exhibition featuring Susan Rubin and Rhiannon Alpers showcasing their talents! Musical performance by David Starr.
This month is featuring two visual artists in the gallery: Susan Rubin and Rhiannon Alpers.
Susan Rubin is a botanical artist with a contemporary point of view. Having trained in the classical tradition of botanical illustration, she is bound to scientific accuracy and detail. She says “In my work, I direct attention back to our relationship with the botanical realm, offering the reminder that we need plants more than they need us…I love to draw, I work primarily in colored pencil, often combined with graphite, pastel, and a variety of grounds and other media. I like to incorporate maps and trompe-l’oeil elements into my drawings, creating clues for the viewer to discover and interpret.” Her work is a wonder to see in person! Our second visual artist on display, Rhiannon Alpers, is a papermaker, letterpress printer, and book artist. She has an MFA in Book and Paper Arts from Columbia College Chicago and a BA in Book Arts from UC Santa Barbara, College of Creative Studies. She has exhibited internationally, and her edition and one-of-a-kind artist books are produced under the Gazelle and Goat Press imprint, a letterpress and bookbinding studio located in Denver. She loves books and nature and these two great loves come together in flawlessly beautiful books characterized by sensitivity, subtlety and a sublime attention to detail. rhiannonalpers.com
For the Happy Hour musical performance we have David Starr, a Colorado-based Blues and Americana singer/songwriter with over 11 albums to his credit. The Arkansas native has honed his decades-long career touring internationally, sharing the stage and collaborating with esteemed artists such as John Oates (Hall & Oates) and many more! In 2024 he melded his blues background of growing up playing electric guitar in Southern Arkansas clubs with his time spent in Nashville exploring Americana and Folk. What he arrived at was his own brand of “Bluesicana” – a melding of the two genres for his highly anticipated project Must Be Blue. davidstarrmusic.com
Come see what he has in store for us this upcoming Final Friday!
