06.13.2025 Richard teaches beginning Waltz and Reverse Waltz, plus all short dances tonight
This Friday night — Three Themes
1. For the first time in ten years, Two-Minute Wonders! All short dances at tonight's dance party!
Some people prefer shorter dances because they can dance with more partners in a night, and if they don't know a dance, they're not standing out as long. And some Leads feel that they've gone through all the variations they know after two minutes. So instead of the usual three-plus minutes for a dance, almost all of the music will be two minutes or less.
It's like speed dating but with dancing instead.
2. Triskaidekaphilia - Lucky Friday the 13th There will be 13 dances in each set instead of 10 or 11, plus the Triskaidekaphobia Line Dance.
3. Beginning Rotary and Reverse (Viennese) Waltz class
Richard Powers teaches a special class from 7:15pm to 9, with Emily Saletan.
Yes, learn both waltzes, in less than two hours. This is an ideal way to ramp up your waltzing for Friday Night Waltz. Rotary Waltz is the original waltz, also known as the Natural Turn Waltz, and is the most widely known waltz in the world. Then we move on to the left-turn Reverse Waltz, sometimes called the Viennese Waltz (although both are danced in Vienna). Plus the new "Reverse That" mixer that includes both waltzes!
If you already waltz, come for dozens of pointers to make your waltzing even better, and especially to help guide beginners through their first steps!
If you're a beginner, please arrive at 7:15pm sharp for the fundamentals. Richard has never taught both of these at FNW. Don't miss this class!
9 pm - Dance Party! Two-Minute Wonders, plus some extras not on this list.
