What: Field Trip to Palmetto Historical Park & Manatee County Agriculture Museum. Organized by KnightFall Academy & SHARE.
When: Friday, March 27, 2026 at 9:30 AM
Where: Palmetto Historical Park is located at 515 10th Avenue West in Palmetto, Florida (across from the Palmetto Library). You may park in the parking lot directly next to the Manatee County Agricultural Museum on the corner of 6th Street & 11th Avenue W.
Cost: While this field trip is FREE, we are limited to 20 students. I will be collecting a $5 fee per school age student to avoid NO SHOWS. The funds (minus the fees that I have to pay to QuickBooks) will be donated directly to the facility. I am happy to provide a copy of the transaction upon request. For those that would like to attend, but are having financial difficulty, please send me a direct message, as I don't want finances to limit participation.
Why: The Palmetto Historical Park is proud to offer free, hands-on educational programming to thousands of local elementary school students each year. Fun activities bring history alive for students in a way that gets them to think critically about our past and imagine what it would be like to walk a day in a pioneer's shoes.
Field trips generally start at 9:45 AM and are done by 1:00 PM (with an option to picnic on Park grounds and/or play in Sutton Park playground after programming). Field trips are customized based on grade level, but will include some of the following activities: Planting (students will take home to watch their plant sprout); Lesson on slate in one-room schoolhouse; Lassoing cattle; Laundry on washboard; Painting with vegetables; and Churning butter.
Allergies Alert!: Students will be making their own butter. This station will include a snack of their butter (made of heavy whipping cream), a package of cookies, and apple juice. Parents/guardians are responsible for providing allergy-friendly alternatives for students with allergies or intolerances to any of these food items.
Chaperones & Tagalongs: We do not have a limit for the number of chaperones on homeschool field trips, as we expect there to be at least one child with each adult. However, we do NOT provide programming for children younger than Kindergarten age. If younger siblings tag along on the field trip, parents/guardians are responsible for watching them throughout the entirety of the program. We do not have enough materials for tagalongs to also participate. We have a room available with a quiet children's movie and baby/toddler toys if a quiet environment is neeed to step away. Parents/guardians are responsible for stepping away with tagalongs who are causing excessive distraction or interruption to programming.
Lunch: After the field trip, you are encouraged to eat lunch with the group either on the grounds or across the street in Sutton Park. Please note that Picnic tables are NOT available; and lunch is NOT provided.
Dress Code: Please ensure your students wear weather appropriate clothing that can handle water, dirt, and butter stains. Most of the field trip is held outdoors.
Photo Permits: Please let me know if your family does not want to be photographed during the field trip. Field trips are sometimes photographed by the Historical Park for social media and other promotional purposes.
