Adam T. Sellen (Mexico) is a professor of Mesoamerican Studies at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in Merida, Yucatan. He is a specialist in pre-Hispanic Oaxacan cultures and has written extensively on the iconography of ceramic effigy vessels commonly referred to as Zapotec urns. His dissertation was published by the UNAM, entitled The Shared Sky: Deified Ancestors in Zapotec Effigy Vessels (2007). His subsequent publications have focused on the genesis of Mexican museums and archaeological collecting practices, documenting the history of the local Mexican collectors, with the aim of reuniting the orphaned, decontextualized remnants of their collections. Currently on sabbatical in Toronto, he has co-organized a series of workshops on repatriation between Canada and Mexico in collaboration with Justin Jennings of the Royal Ontario Museum.
