This year’s fundraiser features an exclusive talk by David Tremain, a celebrated author and researcher who specializes in unearthing the hidden stories of World War II espionage, has published seven books on intelligence. While none of his fascinating subjects rest at Beechwood, their stories will come to life against the historic and contemplative backdrop of Canada’s National Cemetery.

After all, where better to explore tales of buried secrets than in a place that honours our nation’s legacy?

David Tremain will offer an inside look into his upcoming book, Fallout: Exposing an Atomic Spy, set to be published January 2026. The book delves into the seismic events surrounding Igor Gouzenko’s defection and the intelligence fallout that reshaped Canada’s and Britain’s approaches to Cold War espionage.

Gouzenko’s revelations exposed Alan Nunn May—a British
nuclear physicist with ties to the Manhattan Project and Tube Alloys in Canada—as a Soviet spy. The story of espionage, betrayal, and international politics will keep you riveted.

This one-of-a-kind event blends history, storytelling, and support for an important cause. All proceeds will go toward supporting the CSIS National Memorial Cemetery, ensuring the continued honour and remembrance of those who serve our country in intelligence and security.
