Scripture: Matthew 12:46–49; Matthew 13
This Sunday we’ll listen in as Jesus tells stories that redefine what it means to be part of God’s family. Right after declaring that His disciples are His true brothers and sisters, Jesus turns to parables to explain what life in the kingdom family looks like.
Why parables? Because Jesus knew that stories stick. They stir the imagination, invite discovery, and challenge us to wrestle with truth at the heart level. Instead of spelling everything out, He left space for the Spirit to work and for His listeners to do the hard work of reflection.
In Matthew 13 we’ll see three snapshots of the kingdom family:
• The Mustard Seed and the Yeast (vv. 31–33): The kingdom may start small, but it grows mysteriously and powerfully into something far greater than we could imagine. Are you letting your faith grow?
• The Hidden Treasure and the Pearl (vv. 44–46): The kingdom is worth everything we have. Do you treasure it above all else, or have you let its value fade in your eyes?
• The Net (vv. 47–52): The kingdom gathers all kinds of people. Jesus welcomes diversity in His family. Are we casting our nets wide enough to reflect that?
Jesus’ teaching style reminds us that the gospel is not a lecture—it’s an invitation. It’s a challenge to see God in everyday things, to discover truth in story, and to respond with our lives.
Questions to take with you:
• What do Jesus’ parables teach us about being in His family today?
• Do we treasure His kingdom as much as He calls us to?
• Are we willing to grow, to value, and to welcome in the way Jesus envisioned?
Come ready to hear the stories of Jesus again—with open ears and open hearts.
