Dear Ottawa, I'm planning a simple, short, as apolitical as possible candlelight vigil for Charlie Kirk next Monday Sept 22nd at 8PM in Strathcona park. If you're coming, I would ask you to please not bring large flags or other sorts of things that might attract the wrong kinds of attention, especially from public figures and law enforcement types. This is meant to be solemn and respectful, not the shouting kind of thing. It's not a protest, it will be a memorial.
If protest style shouting, loud chanting, and being rowdy is the kind of event you are looking for and will not respect my intent, please do not come. You will be asked to leave if you do that on the night of.
There is a decent amount of parking in the park's lot and on surrounding streets.
I knew very little about Charlie before his death, but the more I learn about him, the more I grow in respect for him and what he did as a talented, kind, and respectful young Christian brother in Christ. To be clear, I wouldn't be doing this for any other so-called right wing figure. This is just for Charlie, and what he stood for. And for Erika and those two young children he left behind.
In the words of other very prominent and public conservative American figures (who were also his friends) on the Charlie Kirk show (full broadcast video available on Charlie Kirk's X feed) on Tuesday, he left a hole that no one else will be able to fill. They can try, but no one will be able to do it all alone the way he did. And with what I've since learned about him, that really doesn't seem to be a cliché, it seems very true of him and his natural abilities, and the work he did to gain the soft skills he had by the time of his assassination.
