Cultural Significance of Palos y Atabales:
The "palos" or "atabales" refer to the drums made from wooden logs, generally of three sizes (major, chivita, and minor), which are played in groups during spiritual, festive, and ceremonial celebrations. Palo music is one of the most important and widespread cultural expressions in the Dominican Republic.
