"From Iowa and Back - The Vietnam Era" represents years of community engagement, collaboration, and storytelling. The film offers a deeply personal exploration of the lives of ordinary Iowans who grew up in the 1950s and 60s, left the idyllic landscapes of small-town America, and faced the realities of wartime in foreign lands and at home. Through Glazier’s lens, the film chronicles these veterans’ journeys, from the turbulence of war to the challenges of reintegration upon returning home. It provides a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by a generation whose narratives have often been overshadowed by history.
Through Brucemore’s Artisan Studio program, a team consisting of production managers, writers, editors, colorists, sound editors, and composers has been gathered to work hand-in-hand with the filmmaker to achieve his creative vision for the project. Brucemore is proud to be part of the telling of this story of everyday Iowans who sacrificed some of their youth to serve their country.

Ron Feeke’s book “Through the Eyes of a Snake” recollects the author’s life growing up and the rift that his decision to join the Marine Corps created between him and his family. Feeks spent 19 months in the military, including a year overseas in Vietnam. When he returned, he expected to spend a semester of college partying on the government’s dime before washing out. Instead, he found himself rising to the challenge and graduating with honors, ultimately leading to a career teaching English.
“When a veteran leaves home, time travels at a different pace,” said Feeks. “When you return, you don’t fit in. You’re left in isolation, and for some people it’s more severe than others.”
To that end, Feeks is directing the proceeds of his book into his own foundation, the Feeks Veteran Benefit Fund, which he has set up to distribute donations to organizations like Operation Homefront, American Heroes, Disabled American Veterans and the Tiny House Project.
