AUDITIONS FOR “ACTING UP! 2025”
presented by the Orange Players!
Open Auditions: June 24 & 25 from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Performances: August 22, 7:30 PM & August 23, 3:00 PM & 7:30 PM

We are seeking a diverse cast of actors, teens through seniors, of all genders and ethnicities for "Acting Up! 2025”, a production of unpublished ten-minute one act plays. We have 10 amazing plays with casts of 2 - 4 actors each. Great opportunity for both new and seasoned actors. Plays may contain adult language and themes. Please see play and character synopses at the bottom of this notice.

NO NEED TO PREPARE!
Actors will be asked to do a cold reading from one or more scripts.
Actors are encouraged to arrive at 7:00 PM and stay through 9:00 PM to allow for multiple play readings. However, you may arrive at any time prior to 8:30 PM and leave earlier if needed.
Actors will be called upon to read for a variety of roles.

REHEARSALS:
Rehearsals are at the discretion of the Director but are typically held once per week during Monday -Thursday evenings at HPCC or at another location, day, and time convenient to both the cast and Director and may begin as early as July 1.

TECH WEEK: August 18, 19, 20, dress rehearsal 21 all from 7 PM – 10 PM

PERFORMANCE DATES:
Friday, August 22 at 7:30 PM (call time 6:15 PM) & Saturday, August 23 at 3:00 PM and 7:30 PM (call time 1:45 PM)

A family processes the aftermath of a chaotic funeral.

Lucie- (/)- The middle child. Conflict avoidant. Resigned.

Mother- (/)- Ridged.


FRESH HELL by Brian Cern
A true story about a marriage being put through the wringer as they
try to register their child for summer camp.
Mom A mother of a ten year old.
Dad A father of a ten year old.


SOMETHING IS ROTTING ON THE STAGE OF GLENMARK by Ken Preuss
When a director with artistic integrity meets an actor dying to get a part, an audition for Hamlet at Glenmark College goes comically awry, becoming a matter of life and death… and afterlife.
VINCENT: Male. College Student. A theatre novice who’s as clueless as he is
hopeful.
PROFESSOR: Any Gender. A teacher and director. A weary visionary ready to
wrap up auditions.

An elderly woman in a nursing home meets the conduit to her final journey.

On Mother’s Day, two women in adjoining cemetery plots voice their complaints about life, children and death as they anxiously await the next stop on their eternal journey.

loud and talks with her hands.

A man desperately seeks to reclaim something that he gave a way a long time ago.
BRIDE a young woman celebrating the most beautiful and anticipated day of her life; she is older than she appears.
MAN her biological father; he is younger than he appears


COOKIE MONSTER by Phil Darg
When a local female youth “scout” tries to sell some cookies to an unfriendly single mother, the mother erupts into a series of tirades against the sidewalk cookie selling trade.
DEENA (FEMALE, any age) – a typical tween “youth scout” – who wears a “scouting” uniform while selling cookies. The role may be played by an actor of any age or gender, but projects a female character of about 11-12 years of age.
BRENDA (FEMALE, 35-50) – a tired, somewhat harried single mother; she carries at least one shopping bag filled with some items, is dressed rather frumpily.
GROCER (MALE, 25-50) – an average “working Joe” wearing a green apron, etc.
