About the event

Trauma-Informed Approaches to Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing, now in its 4th edition (August 2023), is an evidence-based practice used to promote growth and long-term behavior

About this Event

Join an engaging workshop led by a Member of the Motivational Interviewing International Network of Trainers (MINT) with a decade of experience teaching, researching, and evaluating evidence-based practices. This session offers practical insights into the 4th Edition of Motivational Interviewing (MI), a communication framework designed to enhance—not replace—your existing workflows and processes. As a naturally person-centered and trauma-informed approach, MI's empowerment focus provides humanistic engagement with clients. With an additional focus on fostering a growth mindset, the workshop provides interactive opportunities to explore MI's core principles, practice effective techniques, and address real-world challenges. Whether you're new to MI or building on prior knowledge, this workshop equips you with tools to connect, motivate, and support meaningful change in any setting.

Jeremiah Kaplan, MSW specializes in Motivational Interviewing (MI), mindfulness, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based practices. As a member of the Motivational Interviewing International Network of Trainers (MINT), he has extensive experience training, researching, evaluating, developing curriculum, and coding MI and related interventions (e.g. Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment, or SBIRT model). As a second-year Ph.D. student in Population Health (Dissemination & Implementation track), he explores self-determination theory and leadership models to promote intrinsic motivation and autonomy-supportive practices in healthcare and education. Passionate about storytelling and mindfulness, Jeremiah integrates these values into his teaching, research, and community work. A dedicated father, husband, and community leader, he focuses on gratitude, creativity, and fostering meaningful connections to inspire growth across all facets of life.

Kaplan MI Consulting, LLC was created to serve the community's needs for evidence-based practice training and adoption. As its founder, Jeremiah continues to focus on healthcare organizations, education, and other industries to advocate for more person-centered, trauma-informed, and autonomy-supportive processes. He works as a Senior Research & Training Specialist at Arizona State University, where he is also in his second year of the Population Health PhD program at the College of Health Solutions.

This training will take place from 11:30AM-1:30PM - Mountain Standard Time (Phoenix)
