WORLD MUSIC WORKSHOP with Judi Unger

About this Event

Teaching artist Judi Unger* will share her accomplished world music training and experiences by engaging participants in multi-faceted music making experiences from the West African drumming philosophy, Caribbean and Latin music traditions. Participants will learn basic West African drum techniques, poly-rhythmic ensembles, and songs from different cultures. Participants learn to build on skills in listening,focus, teamwork, developing community and recognizing the value of respectful participation.Workshop is hosted by the Omaha Alternatives to Violence Project (b21haGFhdnAgfCB3aXhzaXRlICEgY29t/oavp). Check-in begins at 1:45.An afternoon A potluck afternoon food bar will be shared. Please bring a dish to share. Donations to cover other costs are appreciated. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds. *Teaching Artist, Judi Unger, has studied world music with Sowah Mensah, Josh Ryan, James Mader for over 10 years. Last summer, Unger spent three weeks in Ghana studying at the Nunya Academy Summer Music Institute under drum master, Dr. Kofi Gbolonyo. She deepened and enriched her knowledge of West African culture and music, and performed in ensembles and festivals.
