When two masters of contemporary jazz like Marion Meadows and Alex Bugnon share the stage, the result is an unforgettable blend of elegance, soul, and pure musical chemistry. Joining them at the Omaha Jazz Experience (OJE) is the smooth saxophone sensation Kim Waters, making this an extraordinary night of jazz at Stinson Park on 7/19 at 5 PM.
Marion Meadows is an acclaimed jazz saxophonist whose smooth, expressive sound has made him a standout in contemporary jazz. Raised in Stamford, Connecticut, he began with classical clarinet before discovering his passion for jazz and the soprano saxophone, inspired by greats like John Coltrane and Sonny Fortune. Educated at Berklee and SUNY Purchase, Meadows sharpened his craft through live gigs and sideman work with legends such as Norman Connors, Phyllis Hyman, and The Temptations. A chance performance at Grand Central Station launched his solo career, leading to hit albums like For Lovers Only, Body Rhythm, and Soul City.
Joining Marion is Swiss-born pianist Alex Bugnon, a two-time Soul Train Award nominee whose sophisticated touch and vibrant compositions have earned him a loyal following across the smooth jazz and R&B scenes. With hits like “Going Out” and 107 Degrees in the Shade, Bugnon brings rich harmonies and rhythmic grooves that perfectly complement Meadows’ soaring sax. Together, their performance is not just a concert—it’s a conversation between two seasoned artists, blending their voices in a seamless and soulful jazz experience.
Kim and Kayla Waters are a remarkable father-daughter duo in contemporary jazz, each bringing their own distinctive voice to the genre. Kim Waters, a celebrated saxophonist known for his smooth blend of jazz, R&B, and pop, has released over two dozen chart-topping albums and performed with legends like Al Green and Patti LaBelle. His daughter, Kayla Waters, a classically trained pianist and Howard University graduate, has made her mark with Billboard-topping hits and acclaimed albums such as Apogee and Presence. While Kayla grew up performing alongside her father, she has carved out her own identity as a composer, producer, and Yamaha Artist. Together, they embody a generational bridge in jazz, united by talent, passion, and an evolving musical legacy
Brittany Atterberry is a rising star in contemporary jazz, known for her soulful saxophone sound and captivating performances. Influenced by legends like Dave Koz and Candy Dulfer, she began her musical journey with the clarinet before falling in love with the saxophone in high school. She’s shared the stage with top artists and continues to enchant audiences with her passion and powerful melodies. Help us welcome Brittany to the Omaha Jazz Experience.
