In this hands-on class, students will explore the rich history and cultural significance of broom making, learning how this traditional craft has evolved over time. Participants will be introduced to the tools, techniques, and materials used in the process. Each student will create their own functional hand broom using natural broomcorn and traditional binding methods. By the end of the class, everyone will leave with a completed, ready-to-use hand broom!

About the Instructor
Amelia Galvas has been crafting brooms for over six years and was instantly captivated from the moment she made her first one. For her, education is a vital part of the journey—helping preserve and pass down the tradition of broom making. She shares her passion by visiting schools, museums, and community organizations to speak, demonstrate, and teach all things related to brooms. On weekends, you’ll often find her at the Knoxville Farmers' Market or participating in festivals.
