Flower Ceremony: Freedom and the Beauty of Diversity

Please bring with you a flower (or two) of your choosing to this Service!

For more than a hundred years, the Flower Ceremony has been held as a celebration of individuality-in-community. Unitarian minister Norbert Čapek created the ritual for his congregation in Prague, with each congregant bringing a flower and taking home a different flower, representing both the uniqueness of each person and their shared beauty in community. The Rev. Mája Čapek brought the Flower Ceremony to the United States, carrying the story of the Čapeks' resistance to Nazi oppression with it, and today the ritual is held in almost all Unitarian Universalist congregations.
