Welcome to East Harlem/ El Barrio! This neighborhood of Manhattan has a vibrant network of more than 30 community gardens that provide a snapshot of the long history of the community gardening movement in New York City. Some of these gardens have members with decades of gardening history, others are enthusiastically joining to keep the tradition going. Garden tour participants will learn about the history of the properties the gardens sit on, visit with the current gardeners who are entrusted with caring for the garden, and learn about the wide variety of activities done in the gardens, including composting, production of food, landscaping design, and community event.

Please let us know if interpretation for a language other than Spanish or English is needed. Five of the six gardens have entrances that are ADA accessible.
