Susanne Ortner Trio

𝗦𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲 𝗢𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿 is the real deal — a German-born clarinetist, saxophonist, and composer who now calls New Orleans home. She’s not just crossing genres — she’s weaving jazz, classical, and traditional music into something that feels lived-in and alive. The 𝐴𝑢𝑔𝑠𝑏𝑢𝑟𝑔𝑒𝑟 𝐴𝑙𝑙𝑔𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑖𝑛𝑒 called her “a musician par excellence,” and they weren’t wrong.

She’s played on stages around the world, founded the German quartet 𝑆𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑌𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑆𝑜𝑢𝑙, and built deep musical partnerships — including duos and trios with names like 𝑇𝑐ℎ𝑎 𝐿𝑖𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟𝑔𝑒𝑟, and her own trio with 𝐽𝑎𝑚𝑒𝑠 𝑆𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑙𝑒𝑡𝑜𝑛 and 𝑁𝑎ℎ𝑢𝑚 𝑍𝑑𝑦𝑏𝑒𝑙.

After landing in the U.S. in 2006 and settling in New Orleans in 2017, 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲 jumped straight into the city’s music scene, sharing the stage with folks like 𝑇𝑜𝑚 𝑀𝑐𝐷𝑒𝑟𝑚𝑜𝑡𝑡 and 𝐷𝑜𝑛 𝑉𝑎𝑝𝑝𝑖𝑒. Lately, she’s been digging into Brazilian choro, bringing yet another layer to her already rich sound.

She’s written music for theater, released albums like 𝐿𝑎𝑠𝑡 𝑆𝑡𝑜𝑝 𝑆𝑒ℎ𝑛𝑠𝑢𝑐ℎ𝑡 (2020), and even had her transatlantic journey chronicled in the book 𝐿𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐷𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑚 – 𝐹ü𝑟 𝑑𝑖𝑒 𝑀𝑢𝑠𝑖𝑘 𝑛𝑎𝑐ℎ 𝐴𝑚𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑘𝑎 (2011). She’s not following a path — she’s making her own.
