New Bedford Ballet Takes Flight with Peter Pan
The world’s most popular symbol of everlasting youth, Peter Pan, will be soaring to new heights at Keith Middle School Saturday, June 7 at 2pm and 8pm. Based on J.M. Barries’s timeless story, the New Bedford Ballet’s production of Peter Pan will feature choreography by artistic director Rebecca Waskiel-Marchesseault and New Bedford Ballet instructors Charis Hall, Sadie Marchesseault, and Jenna Torgeson. Choreography by James Brown will be restaged by New Bedford Ballet’s instructors.
Dancers from 5 to 18 years old- including two graduating seniors- together with charming costumes, captivating music, and colorful sets, will create a storybook world of pirates, mermaids, and a myriad of other Neverland characters.
Westport High School junior, Nissa Inwood, will capture Peter’s fearlessness and youthful playfulness as she takes the Darling children on a journey past the “second star and straight on ‘til morning”. Lincoln School senior, Sofia Gillen, will portray the beloved Wendy; and New Bedford High School senior, Eva Politano, will dance the part of the effervescent and clever Tinkerbell. All of them will bring these iconic characters to life through the grace and beauty of the art of ballet.
New Bedford Ballet’s magical production will clearly pay homage to Barrie’s early 20th-century play and novel, as it includes heart-warming characters, action-packed battles, and a large dose of nostalgia. Partaking in this adventure to the “place where dreams are born” is guaranteed to bring joy and wonderment to the young and previously young alike.
This performance is being sponsored by Lang, Xifaras, & Bullard; The William & Deborah Synnott Family, and Riccardi’s Italian Restaurants and Buffet Catering, Acushnet Company, and Colonial Shutterworks. Reserved seating tickets are $25, and general admission prices are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, students, and for children 12 years and younger.
