Join DVAA and artists Frida Foberg and Kayla Jolin for a collaborative visualization workshop to help shape a new community mural, part of Frack, Crack, Boom, Bang – a public art initiative that uplifts the voices of those living on the frontlines of fracking and extraction.
In this hands-on workshop, we’ll listen to selected audio and video narratives from individuals in frack-impacted regions. Through guided creative exercises, we’ll explore how to translate these oral stories into visual concepts, imagery, and themes that will inform the final mural. Your reflections, sketches, and ideas will contribute to a collaborative public artwork to be painted this July in Narrowsburg during Upstate Art Weekend.
This is a process-based, participatory project – no artistic experience is needed. All materials will be provided, and everyone is welcome.
Frida Foberg is a socially engaged artist and architect whose work explores themes of belonging, awareness, and resilience. Kayla Jolin is a multimedia artist, muralist, and arts organizer whose practice centers on public art and fostering creative collaboration. Together, they have collaborated on murals and arts initiatives since 2021, using visual storytelling as a tool for connection, dialogue, and collective expression.
Frack, Crack, Boom, Bang is organized by DVAA in partnership with Damascus Citizens for Sustainability and the Ohio Valley Allies.
Free and open to the public.
The mural will be produced this summer and unveiled on the side of DVAA over July 18th weekend.
