Jazz – Cool, Hot & In Between
The terms “cool” and “hot” in common usage have their origins in jazz. These moods in jazz music have come from the emergence of different approaches to this wondrous, improvised music. In the 1940s and early ’50s, jazz was developing fast in the post-war scenario in America. Charlie Parker had brought about the revolutionary sound of bebop. As a counterpoint, Miles Davis introduced the concept of cool jazz. Meanwhile, others, notably Clifford Brown and Horace Silver, created the sound that came to be known as hardbop.
Fortunately, this period of jazz is available to us via well-preserved recordings. This will be a fascinating listening session.
