Maestro Martyn Brabbins, recently announced as Chief Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of India, beginning January 2026, joins NCPA Chairman and SOI Founder Mr. Khushroo N. Suntook for a special conversation at the NCPA.

About the Speakers

Mr. Khushroo N. Suntook is the Chairman of the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) and the Co-founder of the Symphony Orchestra of India. A long-standing figure in India’s cultural landscape, he has led the NCPA for over 25 years and has been instrumental in shaping the growth and vision of Western classical music in the country.

A respected figure in British and international classical music, Maestro Martyn Brabbins is known for his interpretative depth and commitment to music education. He has served as conductor with the English National Opera, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Malmö Symphony Orchestra and now, our very own Symphony Orchestra of India.

His appointment has already drawn international attention. Writing in Slipped Disc, the world’s most-read source for classical music news, well-known British journalist Norman Lebrecht observed:

“We gather that Martyn Brabbins... has been appointed Chief Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of India, starting in January 2026. This is some coup. The SOI has been improving by leaps and bounds.”
