Les Soirées 100Lux proposent cinq courtes pièces avec des streetdancers locaux et nationaux. Les codirectrices artistiques et générales de 100Lux sont fières de porter ce projet qui permet un grand élan créatif pour les artistes de notre communauté, une soirée où les propositions de chacun·e sont uniques et permettent l’accroissement de la création sur scène.

Les Soirées 100Lux feature five short pieces by local and national streetdancers. The artistic and general co-directors of 100Lux are proud to support this project, which provides a great creative impetus for the artists in our community. It’s an evening that allows the creative process to flourish on stage and where each performance is unique.

• Athena Lucie Assamba & Leah Danga - African Celestial Beings • (12 minutes)
African Celestial Beings rend hommage au caractère divin des masques africains. Ils sont des symboles de la culture africaine et interviennent sur plusieurs pans, dans les rituels, célébrations, funérailles, etc. Les masques regorgent d'une énergie spirituelle captivante rendant visibles des phénomènes habituellement intangibles pour l’humain. Cette énergie amène le masque en transe et entraîne son hôte dans une danse. Ce duo est une exploration de cette gestuelle unique et de l’esthétique exceptionnelle de l’art africain. À l’intersection entre l’art et la spiritualité, cette pièce met en évidence le côté vivant de ces masques considérés comme des artéfacts dans les musées et dont la question de restitution aux peuples à qui ils appartiennent est encore d’actualité.
African Celestial Beings pays tribute to the divine nature of African masks. They are symbols of African culture and play a part in rituals, celebrations, funerals, etc. Masks overflow with a captivating spiritual energy, making visible phenomena that are usually intangible to humans. This energy brings the mask into a trance and draws its host into a dance. This duo is an exploration of the unique gestures and exceptional aesthetics of African art. At the intersection of art and spirituality, this piece highlights the living side of these masks, considered as artifacts in museums, and whose restitution to the peoples to whom they belong is still a topical issue.
• Gabriela Jovian-Mazon - Find Your Light • (12 minutes)
Drapé sur un canapé, une punker s'exprime: I’m ready for my close-up! Sur fond sonore d'un film des années 1950, elle fait partie des cinq interprètes vêtuᐧes de couleurs vives qui se meuvent sur la musicalité de la voix de l'actrice. Les gestes sont extravagants, circulaires et rapides. Iels sont à la fois poséᐧes et flamboyantᐧes, et naviguent sous une tension qui alimente l'élan de l'œuvre. Avec l'intrigue du jeu de société Clue et l'extravagance d'une comédie musicale, Find Your Light révèle les thèmes de l'expression de soi, de la communauté et de la visibilité, tout en partageant les origines de la puissante danse de club punking.
Draped over a couch, in the spotlight, a dancer mouths “I’m ready for my close-up!” She’s one of five colourfully-clad performers moving to the musicality of the actress’s voice from a 1950s film. The dancers’ gestures are extravagant, circular, and rapid-fire quick. Set against an old-Hollywood theatrical vibe, they are poised yet flamboyant, and navigate through an underlying tension that drives the work’s momentum. With the intrigue of the whodunit board game Clue and the extravagance of a Broadway musical, Find Your Light reveals themes of self-expression, community and visibility while sharing the origins of the powerful club dance punking.
• Andy Michel - Running Empty • (8 minutes)
Running Empty est une pièce de danse puissante et émotionnelle qui plonge au cœur des luttes intérieures d’un homme. À travers des mouvements intenses et une mise en scène expressive, elle révèle la vulnérabilité masculine, souvent cachée, face aux pressions sociales et aux souffrances silencieuses. Inspirée par le chiffre tragique de suicides masculins, cette œuvre expose le poids des sentiments refoulés et le combat quotidien pour survivre. Running Empty est un miroir sombre et poignant de l’humanité, offrant un cri de détresse dans un monde où la douleur reste trop souvent invisible.
Running Empty is a powerful and emotional dance piece that delves into a man’s inner struggles. Through intense movements and expressive staging, it unveils the often hidden vulnerability men face in response to societal pressures and silent suffering. Inspired by the tragic statistic of male suicides, this work exposes the weight of repressed emotions and the daily fight for survival. Running Empty is a dark, poignant reflection of humanity, a cry for help in a world where pain too often remains invisible.
• Do Phan Hoi - Rocking Boat • (10 minutes)
Rocking Boat est une pièce inspirée du parcours d'un Canadien de deuxième génération d'origine vietnamienne. À travers un solo de waving, l'artiste explore les vagues émotionnelles et historiques qui ont porté les réfugiés vietnamiens vers une nouvelle vie. Ce voyage poétique reflète le combat intérieur entre la mémoire et l'oubli, l'héritage et l'intégration.
Rocking Boat is a piece inspired by the journey of a second-generation Canadian of Vietnamese origin. Through a waving solo, the artist explores the emotional and historical tides that carried Vietnamese refugees toward a new life, marking a step in a lifelong identity quest. This poetic journey reflects the inner struggle between memory and forgetting, heritage and integration.
• The Unknown Floor Force - Binary-Codes • (15 minutes)
Binary-Codes tire son titre d’une inspection de la pensée centrée sur le binaire, l’idée que les choses sont séparées entre nous et eux, entre 1 ou 0. Cela imprègne si profondément la pensée humaine que ses effets passent souvent inaperçus, permettant de rationaliser la catégorisation du monde qui nous entoure et de définir également les limites de notre capacité à penser, à grandir et à devenir plus sage. Nous souhaitons examiner en profondeur les nombreuses façons dont ces effets se manifestent en raison de cette prédilection. Nous nous demandons comment nous pouvons introduire des nuances pour nous libérer de ce modèle de pensée et explorons les questions relatives à quand/pourquoi/comment devrions-nous.
Binary-Codes derives its title from an inspection of binary-centric thinking, the idea of things being separate, “us vs. them”, “1 or 0”. This permeates human thought so deeply its effects often go unnoticed, allowing for the streamlining of categorization of the world around us. It also defines boundaries in our capacity to think, grow, and become wiser. We wish to inspect in depth the many ways these effects manifest due to this predilection, asking how we can introduce nuance to free ourselves from this model of thinking and exploring questions relating to when/why/how we should.
