The East Los Angeles College Foundation in coordination with the Salas family (David Salas, Rita Daruvala, Steve Salas, Mary Alcantar Robert Salas, Richard Salas Daphee Salas and Martha Salas) have come together to establish the Rudy & Steve Salas scholarship fund. This scholarship is intended for students who are focused on music and its importance to the community. This will be the 4th year we present this award. The scholarship was created 4 years ago with the help of Maria Elena Yepes and Armond Aghakhanian, when my Uncle Steve was still alive, and it was initially named after my father, Rudy Salas. Now that Steve has passed, we intend to keep this tradition alive as a tribute to both of their legacies as the founders of the group Tierra.
Daphne, Maria Elena, Mary and I last year were proud to present this award to Cole Kim - an aspiring drummer and music producer who attends ELAC-David Salas
