Learn how to read a pattern; make increases and decreases; practice stockinette, garter and ribbing; and even dip your toe into simple lace while making this gorgeous chunky shawl! Join us in this in-person class for beginners and make the FUNdamental Shawl by KnittyMelissa.
The bulky weight yarn works up fast, but students may also choose a thinner, worsted-weight yarn for a different option.
The in-person class will be held in the store, and is designed for beginner knitters who can knit and purl and want to level up! All classes are for ages 16+ unless otherwise noted.
Note on Materials: All materials are available at Yarnia. Yarn for the project must be purchased at Yarnia; come in or call before your first class for help in selecting appropriate materials and get a 10% discount on yarn purchased for class use. If you have already purchased yarn from us, you may use that yarn in this class.
Materials
-270-340 yards of chunky to bulky-weight yarn such as Berroco Vintage Chunky, Manos del Urugay Cardo, Laines du Nord Rozena, Noro Malvinas, Juniper Moon Farm La Pampa, and Juniper Moon Farm Beatrix. (for a larger size shawl, use between 340-500 yards).
OR: 600 yards of worsted- to aran-weight yarn such as Fonty Super Tweed and Aubosson, Malabrigo Rios, Madelinetosh Vintage, Berroco Ultra Wool, Noro Keuryon or Silk Garden, Kelbourne Woolens Lucky Tweed or Germantown.
-one pair size US 10 .5 32" circular knitting needle for the bulky weight option; one pair us size 8 32" circular knitting needle for the worsted weight option.
-Yarn/tapestry needle
-scissors
Class fee is $80 for three 90-minute in-person sessions and does not include the materials kit. Please arrive at Yarnia 10 minutes before the start of class, with materials in hand. Yarn for the project must be purchased at Yarnia; come in or call before your first class for help in selecting appropriate materials and get a 10% discount on yarn purchased for class use.
