“From Cowboys at Dundas Farms to Oyster Fishers in Freeland - Dr. Josh MacFayden

The last century brought enormous changes to rural life on Prince Edward Island, from new ways of farming to advanced aquaculture, and entirely new service industries such as tourism. These industries had a profound impact on the traditional agrarian villages for which PEI was so well known. By examining these rural spaces from the air we see new dimensions of this transformation. As an Island historian and an Islander who grew up on a farm in Hazel Grove, MacFadyen explores how the history of rural and small town PEI made this Island a unique part of Canada. This presentation uses historical maps and stories from all over rural PEI to answer these questions, and it features a preview of MacFadyen's new ebook Time Flies, Online Edition: A History of Prince Edward Island from the Air.
