Borestone’s Macroinvertebrates: A look into fishless ponds – Borestone Naturalist Series

Join us to explore the wonderful interactions between organisms living in an incredibly unique habitat: Borestone’s fishless ponds! These ponds allow for macroinvertebrates such as dragonflies and damselflies to flourish, as well as their amphibious predators. Leaders: David Lamon and Sherman O’Brian, Maine Audubon Northern Programs staff. Meet at the Visitor Center.

$5 members, $7 nonmembers

Encompassing almost 1,600 acres in Maine’s Hundred Mile Wilderness region, Borestone Mountain Audubon Sanctuary offers a spectacular array of natural features, including rare older forest, three crystalline ponds, exposed granite crags, and sweeping, panoramic views. Hiking trails lead to the summit and other viewpoints, and a seasonal Visitor Center includes displays and a small Nature Store. The entrance gate is just off Bodfish Valley Road, Elliotsville, and the Visitor Center is a 1.3-mile walk up the access road.
