Tree Identification & Ecology Walk – Borestone Naturalist Series

Interested in learning more about the trees that make Maine’s North Woods so beautiful and unique? Maine Audubon’s Urban Forestry Education Specialist Jeff Tarling will lead a walk to show you how to use leaf, bark, twig characteristics, and more to identify local trees. Jeff will also discuss current threats to our native tree species.

Meet at the Borestone entrance gate.

$5 members, $7 nonmembers

Encompassing almost 1,600 acres in Maine’s Hundred Mile Wilderness region, Borestone Mountain Audubon Sanctuary offers a spectacular array of natural features, including rare older forest, three crystalline ponds, exposed granite crags, and sweeping, panoramic views. Hiking trails lead to the summit and other viewpoints, and a seasonal Visitor Center includes displays and a small Nature Store. The entrance gate is just off Bodfish Valley Road, Elliotsville, and the Visitor Center is a 1.3-mile walk up the access road.
