About the Book: Come along with John Crawford - and sometimes with his adventure buddy, Gary Winek - as he kayaks, canoes, mountain bikes, mountain climbs, backpacks and snowshoes in six different states across this country. Sit back and vicariously join him as he runs into trouble on a trip after trip, getting treed by an ornery bull moose two days away from any help, getting lost in a snowstorm after summitting 9,000-foot Lolo Peak, hauling a 70-pound pack on snowshoes in four feet of snow deep in the Selway wilderness, where it literally "snowed" inside his tent on a 100-mile trek, flirting with death when a rattlesnake struck at him on Day 3 on a Missouri River canoe trip, and almost drowning when a tree pinned him and his kayak underwater on the Bitterroot River. As you journey with John (and Gary), see the incredible beauty of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Missouri, South Dakota, Montana, and Idaho, with his very vivid descriptions bringing the reader along to each state as he treks through this land.
About the Author: A resident of Lolo, Montana, John has been writing books since 1993, when he wrote the Woodman Echo 1892-1992," a book about the history of Woodman School, where his partner, Judy, taught for 30 years. And a writer doesn't just give up his or her craft, as he plans to continue the journal that he's kept since 1986. And, who knows, maybe someday he'll write another book. Rachel Burk, John's publisher, wrote in the foreword to Above It All, that John has a "love and desire to live each day as an absolute adventure," which sums up how he lives his life. John plans to continue to go on his yearly adventures with his buddy Gary Winek, and to return to his summer homes on Indian Hill and Sundance Lookouts.
